We understand that visiting the dentist can be an uncomfortable experience. Don’t let fear or anxiety keep you from your best smile! We offer multiple forms of sedation dentistry in Ferris, TX, to turn your anxiety visit into a calm, relaxed experience.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation makes dental treatments more comfortable. Depending on your procedure, sedation dentistry may not be necessary; however, most can still benefit from it regardless of the treatment. We administer dental sedation in multiple ways to help you relax better and have a more comfortable treatment. It also makes it easier for Dr. Williams to perform multiple or extensive dental procedures more quickly and efficiently, minimizing your number of visits and time in the dental chair.

Our Types of Dental Sedation

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Commonly referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is used for its relaxing and euphoric effects. It is known as “laughing gas” due to the euphoria that sometimes creates laughter from the patient. This sedation option lets you stay aware of your surroundings to communicate with Dr. Williams and her team during the entire treatment of your duration.

The gas consists of a safe combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen and is inhaled through a nosepiece. Dr. Williams monitors and controls the level of nitrous oxide throughout the treatment for your safety. Once the treatment is over, you’ll be able to drive home and continue your daily activities.

Oral Conscious Sedation

We also offer oral conscious sedation! Upon arrival, we’ll provide you with an oral sedative that relaxes your state of mind. Patients who feel stressed about dental work can benefit from this medication because they often become sleepy before the treatment begins.

This sedative is ideal for patients who have multiple treatment needs and want to complete the treatment in as few visits as possible. Oral conscious sedation is also used with nitrous oxide to supplement the sedative’s effects. Although you may fall asleep during the procedure, you will be able to communicate with the doctor and staff the entire time. If you opt for oral sedation, you’ll need someone to drive you home after your treatment.

IV Conscious Sedation

IV Conscious sedation is available in our office for patients who have extensive dental needs or extreme anxiety with dental treatment. If you’d like this sedation option, we’ll book a dental anesthesiologist to come to visit our office and provide the sedative during your appointment. With IV conscious sedation, your body and mind will fully relax, thus making the treatment easier and faster.

Once under sedation, patients can respond to verbal commands and can breathe without assistance. After the treatment, you will be very drowsy and most likely not remember any of the treatment. You will need someone to drive you home. The sedative should clear your body the next day, and you can return to normal activities.
